We need bowls clubs to help us raise awareness about prostate cancer in 2023

The Prostate Cancer Foundation is asking all bowls clubs to help us raise awareness about prostate cancer by setting aside one day in September, which is prostate cancer awareness month.

All that’s required, is for bowler’s to suit up for that day and buy a sticker for R50 from the Prostate Cancer Foundation. It doesn’t have to be a full suit and tie. Participants can feel free to decide how they want to “suit up” for the day. We’ll supply the Suit Up September sticker badges and information leaflets about prostate cancer.

If you have a prostate cancer survivor at your club, who is willing to share a bit about their experience with having being diagnosed and treated for prostate cancer,  that can definitely add a personal touch to your event.

Why is it important to raise awareness about prostate cancer?

  • Prostate cancer is the most common cancer affecting South African men and it will be the most common cancer in South Africa by 2030.
  • There are usually no symptoms of prostate cancer in the early stages when it is curable.
  • Once prostate cancer spreads through the body (metastatic prostate cancer), it is no longer curable and treatment is focused on slowing disease progression.
  • Prostate cancer screening is the only way to ensure that the cancer is detected in the early stages when treatment is potentially curable

We know that you plan your events well in advance, which is why we’re asking you to set a date aside in September to raise awareness about prostate cancer.
