September 2024 is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month
Suit up on any day in September for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month!
What is Suit Up September all about?
September is international prostate cancer awareness month and we use the opportunity to raise awareness about prostate cancer and to raise funds to help us with the work that we do. We ask individuals, sports clubs, companies, organisations, healthcare professionals and academic departments to choose any day in September to “suit up” and to wear an official suit up badge purchased from us with their suit up outfit. All funds raised are used to support our education and awareness programs.
How can companies get involved?
Choose any day in September to hold a “suit Up” event. You can do an in-office event or a virtual event, as long everyone is either wearing a suit up badge or they take a photo of themselves next to a screen displaying our 2024 Suit Up badge. Have a prize for the best dressed man and women and perhaps even one for the wackiest suit up outfit. Posting photos using the hashtag #suitupseptember helps us with gaining exposure. It’s also a great idea to have a speaker on prostate cancer, so please feel free to contact us and we’ll do our best to assist you.
How to order suit up badges
For bulk orders you can contact us and we’ll send “Suit Up September” stickers directly to you. Downloadable stickers are available from our online store. Stickers cost R50 each plus a courier fee which is dependent on the delivery address.
Why is it important to raise awareness about prostate cancer?
Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancer affecting South African men. The risk for prostate cancer increases with age and 70% of men over the age of 70 are likely to be affected. Treatments for prostate cancer are highly effective, particularly if the disease is detected early. Raising awareness about prostate cancer can save lives. Men who have been educated about prostate cancer are more likely to go for their annual screening tests. Prostate cancer that is detected in the early stages is curable. Once prostate cancer has spread (metastasized) it is not curable. There are normally no symptoms in the early stages of prostate cancer which is why screening is so important.
